Kee Bee (KB) Lim is a Senior Test Analyst in Ultradata's Quality Assurance team. He tests Ultradata's core and digital banking software to confirm they are working as intended before their deployment to client sites making him the "gatekeeper" who ensures Ultradata's solutions deliver the best possible operator experience.
KB has had an accomplished career journey, which has included 25 years in operational roles at some of Malaysia's major banks, and eight years working as a Test Analyst.
His journey as to becoming a Test Analyst is testament to his accomplishments in the world of banking.
“After working in another industry for a short period of time, I was looking to return to banking. At that time, I was approached (by a previous employer) who inquired if I’d like to share my banking experience and knowledge to help them shape their core banking system. It was not something I had considered before, but I took the role and haven’t looked back” said KB.
After six years in Test Analyst Roles in the FinTech and Insurance industries KB took his talents to work in the Australian market, joining Ultradata as a Senior Test Analyst in April 2022.
As a test analyst, KB enjoys stepping into the shoes of an operator and playing out their day-to-day roles. In doing so, he helps make Ultradata’s financial technology software more user-friendly for client operators and as a result – best user experience for the client customers.
"I've had a lot of different roles throughout my time in banking. Customer service, lending, products, operations, even carrying cash! As a user of core banking systems in all these varied roles, I know how to test the system so that it works effectively for every user and function" said KB.
Whilst KB is passionate about his work, family comes first. Outside of work, fitness and family keep him busy.
"I'm an active guy. I played a lot of badminton in my youth but now my son is into pool so I play with him at least once a week".
Ultradata KL’s flexible way of working allows KB to achieve the perfect work-life balance and bring the best version of himself to work. A supportive work culture means he doesn't have to sacrifice career development for family time either.
"Flexible work allows me to plan my days around my family commitments when required. That's very important to me.
I have a great balance of projects and as a team, we're encouraged to dedicate time to refining our work and improving our skills" said KB.
In particular, KB highlights the collaborative spirit of his team as the most valuable asset to his professional development – and Ultradata as a whole.
“I have acquired valuable skills through hands-on experience in my day-to-day work. Specifically, I have developed proficiency in executing database queries, which I learned with guidance from our experienced host developers. These skills have greatly enhanced my ability to verify program results, particularly in challenging scenarios.”
So, what does the future hold for KB?
With a passion for financial technology and a growth mindset and not one to coast on his three decades of impressive accomplishments, KB is keen to place himself at the forefront of the next evolution in technology.
"In banking systems, automation is the future. As new technologies make automation easier, operators increasingly leverage it in their banking system interactions. From a testing perspective, automation also provides new efficiencies, which make quality assurance testing more effective if used correctly.
"I'm currently a manual tester, but I'm thrilled to be part of Ultradata's automation training program. This opportunity will empower me to learn new skills and apply automation techniques to streamline testing processes and deliver higher-quality software."
KB continues to play a valuable role in enhancing the Ultracs operator experience for Ultradata clients and their customers. Thank you KB for your passion and commitment to Ultradata and the wider financial technology industry.
